Safer Ministry Education

The education program is intended to assist the clergy and identified lay workers to create a safer environment through informing, teaching and reinforcing key principles relating to the following areas:

THE FOUR BASIC UNITS OF SAFER MINISTRY EDUCATION ARE -

Details of who is required to attend what training is provided  through the information sheet Safer Ministry Accreditation. Anglicans required to attend this training are not charged any fees. All the costs are met by the Diocese. Bookings for all sessions can be made via the email link on each session or by telephoning: 8416 8440 with your contact details, parish/agency & session date.

MANDATORY NOTIFICATION TRAINING

This one day course outlines the requirements for paid and voluntary workers in the Anglican Church to report child abuse. This training will help people working with children to recognise the signs of child abuse, know the appropriate action to take and understand how they can support the child and their family. As the content of the course relates to legislation that is specific to South Australia, the training must be undertaken within South Australia by an accredited trainer.

All training is at the Anglican Ministry Centre, 34 Lipsett Tce, Brooklyn Park. Training sessions run from 9am until 5pm. Please bring your own lunch. Morning Tea and Afternoon Tea provided.

POWER AND TRUST

In this one day training you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the code of conduct which will include education about harassment, bullying and the maintenance of professional boundaries. All training is at the Anglican Ministry Centre, 34 Lipsett Tce, Brooklyn Park. Training sessions run from 9am until 5pm. Please bring your own lunch. Morning and Afternoon Tea provided.

SAFETY AND SCREENING

This training is delivered in two sections. There is a half-day seminar which provides an introduction to risk management, behaviours of concern and the process of implementing the screening requirements stipulated by the Diocese. Participants must also complete an on-line seminar. All training is at the Anglican Ministry Centre, 34 Lipsett Tce, Brooklyn Park. Training sessions run from 9am until 1pm. MorningTea provided.

RECOGNISE AND RESPOND

In this two day seminar you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to provide appropriate responses to adults who have been raped or sexually assaulted. The program will cover

    * Historical and social context of child sexual abuse (CSA) and rape
    * Myths that support misuses of power
    * Incidence and prevalence of CSA and Rape
    * Responding to a disclosure of CSA or Rape
    * Practice issues
    * Vicarious traumatisation (self-care)

This program is delivered for the Diocese of Adelaide by Yarrow Place Rape and Sexual Assault Service and Women's Health Statewide who have extensive experience in responding to adult men and women who disclose abuse. It runs over two days, participants  need to attend both days.

When possible, participants are encouraged to complete Mandatory Notification Training prior to enrolling in this module.

Each session will be held at Yarrow Place Rape and Sexual Assault Service, 2nd Floor Norwich Centre, 55 King William Road, North Adelaide. (All day parking is available in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital car park – Kermode Street OR on Pennington Tce.  Fees apply to both).
