Safer Ministry Education

Anglican Diocese of Adelaide is committed to supporting Church Workers in their call to serve within the Church. This support includes providing training on a range of issues to develop a safer church.

Over the past four years nearly 3000 people have participated in some aspect of the Safer Ministry Education programmes in the Diocese. In the latter half of 2010 a Committee of Review considered the programmes the Diocese had asked people to undertake, with a view to ‘streamlining’ programmes for the future.

Late in 2010 the Diocesan Council accepted the Review Committee’s report with several key recommendations among which is the suspension for the first six months of 2011 of all Safer Ministry Education programmes while a new education programme is devised and trialled in the latter half of the year. Whatever the new education programmes consist of they will involve a considerable reduction in time for participants, and the reduction of the three Tiers of education to two Tiers.

It is acknowledged that for some people part of the training material may be of a sensitive nature.  This material aims to achieve a common understanding and response to safer ministry within the Diocese.  All sessions are facilitated in a manner which seeks to maximise participant’s emotional and physical wellbeing.

All costs for Safer Ministry training are met by the Diocese with no charge to participants.

Child Safe Environments – Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect

This one day seminar outlines the legislative requirements for paid and voluntary workers in the Anglican Church to report child abuse.  This training will help you to recognise the signs of child abuse, know the appropriate action to take and understand how to support the child and their family.  As the content of the course relates to legislation that is specific to South Australia, the training must be undertaken within South Australia by an accredited Families SA trainer.  A recently completed accredited Families SA 7-hour Child Safe Environments – Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training from another organisation is acceptable.
